چکیده

Scattering and absorption of light by a homogeneous distribution of intergalactic large dust grains has been proposed as an alternative, non-cosmological explanation for the faintness of Type Ia supernovae at z ∼ 0.5. We investigate the differential extinction for high-redshift sources caused by extragalactic dust along the line of sight. Future observations of Type Ia supernovae up to z ∼ 2, e.g. by the proposed SNAP satellite, will allow the measurement of the properties of dust over cosmological distances. We show that 1% relative spectrophotometric accuracy (or broadband photometry) in the wavelength interval 0.7–1.5 μm is required to measure the extinction caused by “grey” dust down to δm = 0.02 magnitudes. We also argue that the presence of grey dust is not necessarily inconsistent with the recent measurement of the brightness of a supernova at z = 1.7 (SN 1997ff), in the absence of accurate spectrophotometric information of

Extragalactic sources in Cosmic Microwave Background maps

We discuss the potential of a next generation space-borne CMB experiment for studies of extragalactic sources with reference to COrE+, a project submitted to ESA in response to the call for a Medium-size mission (M4). We consider three possible options for the telescope size: 1m, 1.5m and 2m (although the last option is probably impractical, given the M4 boundary conditions). The proposed instr...

Hubble-bubble in Iranian Folklore

Hubble-bubble has been the most common device for smoking tobacco in Iran and its neighboring. It has a folkloric name in every region. Hubble-bubble consists of a glass pitcher or pottery at the bottom, a wooden body in the middle, a wooden or plastic tube attached to the body for puffing, and a censer at the top to put tobacco and charcoal. Puffing causes the charcoal to catch fire and the to...

Review the phenomenon of dust and study of effective winds on it (Case Study: Bandar Abbas, Hormozgan province)

Dust storms and high winds is a natural process that occurs in everywhere of arid and semi-arid land in the world. The phenomenon of dust is one of the most important consequences of the desertification that cause different damages. The aim of this study was to analyze the occurrence of dust in the city of Bandar Abbas. First, the frequency of monthly and annual dust from 1985-2005, in the city...

0 γ - ray burst afterglows as probes of galactic and intergalactic dust

The amount and properties of high-redshift galactic and intergalactic (IG) dust are largely unknown, but could be investigated using multi-wavelength photometry of high-z objects that have a known intrinsic spectrum. Observations of γ-ray burst (GRB) afterglows appear to support the theoretical model of an adiabatic blast wave expanding into an external medium. In this model, the synchrotron pe...

Cosmic Dust Induced Flux Fluctuations: Bad and Good Aspects

Cosmic dust extinction alters the flux of type Ia supernovae. Inhomogeneities in the dust distribution induce correlated fluctuations of the SN fluxes. We find that such correlation can be up to 60% of the signal caused by gravitational lensing magnification, with an opposite sign. Therefore if not corrected, cosmic dust extinction is the dominant source of systematic uncertainty for future SNe...
